The second annual Headbangers for Hayden concert will be held at the Rosebowl Bowling Alley on September 30. What began as a benefit for the Daufeldt family has become a fundraising event to financially support families in the Muscatine area battling childhood cancer, according to the group’s Facebook page.

Justin and Kelly Yant founded the group Headbangers for Hayden shortly after Hayden was first diagnosed with cancer in November 2015, as a way to provide support for Hayden and his parents, Cory and Kendra Daufeldt. Justin Yant said they are currently a non-profit corporation that raises money through benefits such as concerts, Jeep runs, and golf outings. The money goes to assist families with medical bills and other expenses they must deal with after their child has been diagnosed with cancer. Some money raised in these events goes toward funding future events, but the majority is donated to families in the Muscatine area.

Justin Yant said they chose to have these concerts because it’s music that they love and they knew they could find bands to play as they have connections in the “headbanging music” genre. Some of the bands scheduled to play are Heavyweight, Far From Fearless, Old Man’s Curse, The Rumours, Dogs of Neptune, RM-212, and Corn Fed Bruiser.

Justin Yant said they are very excited about this year’s concert. “We have scheduled seven awesome bands. We’ll also have food vendors and Headbangers for Hayden merchandise to sell.” Yant also said they felt they underestimated the turnout last year and are excited to be hosting the concert in a larger venue this year. He hopes to see 1000 or more people attend the event this year.

Gates open at noon on September 30 at the Rosebowl and bands begin playing at 1:00 p.m. All ages are welcome. Admissions for those 21 and older will be $15, those 10 to 20 will pay $10, and children under 10 years old get in free. To donate to the cause or help out in anyway, visit the Facebook page “Headbangers for Hayden” and send a message.
