Gilda’s Club is hosting a free workshop on lymphedema and Tai Chi led by physical therapist CaleenPagel on Thursday, April 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 401 Iowa Avenue, in the Gathering Room located on the 2nd floor. Please use the 4th Street entrance.
Lymphedema impacts many cancer patients, especially those who have lymph nodes removed. It is most commonly associated with breast cancer, but does affect both men and women.
Pagel, a Muscatine Physical Therapist, will present on the lymphatic system, signs, symptoms, and risk factors of lymphedema, risk reduction strategies, treatment interventions, and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Pagel will also discuss how Tai Chi can reduce stress and help drain the lymphatic system. Participants are encouraged to join in a short Tai Chai exercise.
A licensed Iowa physical therapist since 1980, Pagel has experience in pulmonary and cardiac rehab, neuro rehab, women’s health, torticollis in infants.
