The job I have keeps me busy running from event to event across Muscatine and the surrounding communities. This weekend is no exception, and I wanted to make sure you’re in the loop about what’s going on.

This Friday, September 29 you should absolutely make plans to attend Hy-Vee Mainstreet Wine & Spirits Oktoberfest event! That’s in downtown Muscatine in the Hy-Vee Mainstreet parking lot starting at 3:30 p.m. Tons of great beer, wine and spirit samplings and tickets are just $10 available at Wine & Spirits or Customer Service. I’ll be there on location with a live broadcast, and it’d be great to see you!

Saturday, of course, we’ll be carrying the Iowa Hawkeye football game on Vintage Sound 93.1 FM. The Hawks travel to take on Michigan State with pregame coverage starting at 1:00 p.m. and kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Go Hawks!

I normally don’t have work events on Sunday. However, when the Nature Conversancy of Iowa comes calling, you answer! Swamp Stomp happens this Sunday, October 1 at Ardon Creek and is a day full of great events, including tours of swamp white oak preserve, live bluegrass music, and amphibian and reptile programs. Here’s the best part: Swamp Stomp is FREE! It starts at 1 p.m. and, I should mention, some of the other activities include face painting, games, door prizes, live critters, wine tasting, and more. I’d make plans to be there if I were you! The only other thing I would normally be doing on a Sunday is watching my Chicago Bears lose…no thanks!

This Saturday is also the return of Headbangers for Hayden, honoring the legacy of Hayden Daufeldt. The event takes place behind the Rose Bowl Bowling Alley here in Muscatine and features an afternoon and evening full of live music. Proceeds will benefit families that have children battling cancer as we remember our buddy Hayden who passed away in August. Please consider stopping down at some point.

So the next time someone says “There’s nothing to do in this town” you can proudly reply “YES there is, you just have to know where to look!” If you’re connected to an upcoming event, you can always send it to us at the Voice of Muscatine Newspaper and KWPC and Vintage Sound radio. We live and work in Muscatine and want to make sure that we’re covering everything that is going on. Have a great week, and I hope to see you at some point this weekend!
