Ducks Unlimited investing in cover crops

A spokesperson for Ducks Unlimited says a new cover crop program in the Western Lake Erie is filling up fast.

Biologist Jena Herrick tells Brownfield 75,000 acres in Michigan and Indiana are eligible for payments on a first-come, first-served basis, “based on water quality, sedimentation, and habit,” she says.

She says the organization wants to help farmers and the environment through regenerative agriculture practices like cover crops.

Enrolled farmers can earn $10 per acre for four years and stack enrollment with other conservation programs.
