Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre continues its season with “Godmother Death and the Water of Life.” One performance will be held Sunday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Owl Glass Puppetry center, 319 N. Calhoun, West Liberty. In lieu of ticket sales, Eulenspiegel is requesting non-perishable food items, preferably two per person, or monetary donations for the local food bank. From 1:00 to 2:45 p.m., supplies, instructions, and help will be available for anyone wanting to make a charming, pop-up holiday card!
“Godmother Death and the Water of Life” is based on a story by the Brothers Grimm and incorporates Mexican Day of the Dead imagery and folklore, using beautifully crafted, soft-sculpted puppets and colorful scenes to tell a dramatic, life-affirming tale. The elaborately decorated staging is inspired by the altarpieces of the churches of Spanish colonial missions. Created and performed by Eulenspiegel’s Mexican partner puppeteer, Eli Portugal, her music and singing enliven this dreamy story while giving it a delicate touch. This show is not intended for small children; it’s ideal for age 8 through adult.
All of West Liberty will be active and lively on November 19 as the town celebrates its annual Holiday Open House. Allow extra time that afternoon to stroll around town and enjoy impromptu performances, open businesses, and holiday treats. The Holiday Open House is scheduled from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
