Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre will host an evening event for adults and children nine and over on Friday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Owl Glass Puppetry Center, 319 N. Calhoun, West Liberty. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Seating is limited, so get your tickets early!
The centerpiece of the evening will be the premiere of Eli Portugal’s new show, Godmother Death and the Water of Life. Grounded in folklore, including a tale by the Brothers Grimm, the story uses beautifully crafted, soft-sculpted puppets and an exquisitely detailed mask. The elaborately decorated staging is inspired by the altarpieces of the churches of Spanish colonial missions. Portugal’s music and haunting singing voice enliven this dreamy tale while giving it a delicate touch.
In addition, acclaimed storyteller Duffy DeFrance will tell an original Iowa ghost story or two. Topping off the evening, all participants will be invited to decorate authentic Mexican sugar skulls while snacking on traditional Day of the Dead bread and hot cider.
