A ribbon-cutting event was held on March 2 for Muscatine Community College’s new Culinary and Hospitality Lab.
Eastern Iowa Community College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs were expanded to Muscatine with the first culinary class beginning this past month. Students meet at the lab on Mondays to complete their course work and spend the rest of their week in internships with local restaurants.
The lab utilizes a real-world kitchen setting.
The programs are partnering with the new Merrill Hotel and Conference Center. Once construction is complete, graduates are guaranteed an interview for employment with the hotel.
Students in the culinary program are simultaneously completing a national apprenticeship program so the skills they learn are in demand at restaurants throughout the area and the rest of the United States.
