Muscatine – February 24, 2016The Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine distributed $45,656 in grants to 27 charitable organizations benefiting Muscatine County at an awarding ceremony held on Wednesday, February 24, at CBI Bank & Trust.

“We are pleased to support the excellent organizations across Muscatine County who are undertaking projects to enhance the quality of life for residents, said Judi Holdorf, Executive Director of Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine. “The quality of projects and the wide range of categories they address makes us proud to live in Muscatine County.”

  • Muscatine Symphony Orchestra – $2,000.00 for “Celebrate Youth” Masterworks IV Concert
  • Durant Police Department – $500.00 for Equipment for new squad car
  • United Way of Muscatine – $1,800.00 for Summer Lunch Program
  • GMCCI – Leadership Muscatine – $2,800.00 for Muscatine Soapbox Derby – a Leadership Muscatine Project
  • Lutheran Services in Iowa – $1,500.00 for BHIS Play – Therapy kit and supplies
  • Flickinger Learning Center – $2,000.00 for Animated academics equipment and staff training
  • Muscatine Co Boxing Club – $1,500.00 for Operations of Muscatine County Boxing Club
  • ISU Extension and Outreach Muscatine County – $1,495.00 for Conversations on Aging and Finances of Caregiving Series
  • Muscatine Farmers Market – $538.00 for Music at the Market
  • Army Corps of Engineers – $2,000.00 for Clark’s Ferry Accessible Fishing Dock Project
  • Writers on the Avenue – $500.00 for Spring Poetry Festival
  • Friends of Greenwood Cemetery – $1,000.00 for Phase 2 of the Restoration of Greenwood Cemetery Steps
  • Muscatine Co Arts Council – $900.00 for Sidewalk Poetry Project
  • Muscatine Center for Business Development – $1,735.00 for Muscatine Youth Entrepreneur Academy
  • Bethany for Children & Families – $2,500.00 for Skill-building therapy services for Muscatine children
  • Gilda’s Club Quad Cities – $1,600.00 for Muscatine from Cancer to Health
  • Federated Muscatine Garden Club, Inc. – $450.00 for “Plant It Pink” flower garden plantings at Weed Park
  • Wilton Public Library – $1,373.00 for Children Learn Program
  • Muscatine Farmers Market – $500.00 for Fitness at the Market
  • Muscatine Band Boosters – $1,600.00 for MHS Band Leadership Training Camp for student leaders

The Community Foundation’s Muscatine County Endowment Re-granting Program is funded through the Iowa Department of Economic Development and made available only to accredited, qualified community foundations like the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine.

Additional grants awarded:

  • City of Muscatine Parks & Recreation Department – $889.97 for Weed Park Beautification Project

George Millett Endowment – Grants to serve individuals with special needs and disabilities:

  • Special Olympics Muscatine – $1,000 for new uniforms
  • Jubilee Community Center – $2,500 for tech updates to serve clients of the center

The Granting Committee of the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine is comprised of board representatives and community members who review and evaluate grant applications and make recommendations to the board of directors.
