The Columbus Junction City Council on Wednesday, approved a formal set of guidelines that will now govern public participation at council meetings. Mayor Dan Wilson proposed the guidelines last month, explaining they would be helpful if members of the public attempted to debate city officials during council meetings or became confrontational. Wilson emphasized the new guidelines were not intended to silence the public. The guidelines, which will allow the mayor and the council to maintain order during council discussions will be posted on the city’s website and also be available at the council chambers entrance.
