At the November 10 city council meeting, Muscatine Public Works Director Brian Stineman brought a recommendation forward that the city begin eliminating permanent speed bumps as a means to impede speed on Muscatine streets. “Research shows that they don’t really drastically slow drivers down, and we have other ways to reduce the speed that are easier to maintain.”  The council was comfortable with the recommendation. Stineman said, “We will still have the ability to use temporary speed bumps and other devices if needed.”
