The West Liberty Police Department will hold free car seat and booster seat inspections at Kids Fest in West Liberty. Kids Fest begins at 10:00 a.m. on September 16.
“We are encouraging people with any questions or concerns about their child seat to stop and visit us. We will have an area marked off in front of City Hall, 409 North Calhoun,” said West Liberty Police Chief Kary Kinmonth. He also said Lutheran Services of Iowa will be offering their expertise to help ensure all seats are secure.
Kinmonth says the police department wants to be available due to frequently asked questions from community members about child safety seats. “In the future, we will have a certified child safety seat inspector on staff. I have an officer going to a 40-hour training session on this later next month,” said Kinmonth.
The police department will be outside City Hall from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Kinmonth said, “Certified child safety seat inspectors will be on hand to check for proper installation of car seats. They will also help install car seats and booster seats. Officers from the West Liberty police department will also be on hand to answer questions about Iowa’s child restraint laws.”
Anyone is invited to come to the inspection and fitting. Kinmouth asks everyone to bring the car seats and booster seats, the vehicle they will be installed in, and the child who will be in that seat for the most accurate fit.
