Hanging up the headphones

This Friday, December 8, is my last day with Vintage Sound 93.1 FM, KWPC, and The Voice of Muscatine Newspaper. After nearly five years with Prairie Radio Communications (owner of the radio stations and newspaper), I decided it was in the best interest of me and my family to resign. This isn’t a goodbye, because I’m pleased to tell you that my family and I will be staying put in Muscatine! I’ve accepted a fulltime job at Hy-Vee (the big one on Highway 61) as Marketing and Merchandising Director. My job will include managing and maintaining all social media...

The cost of Christmas 2017

Thank you, Facebook! Just the other day I saw something that is potentially going to shift how my family approaches Christmas spending: “Get them something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read.” I LOVE this idea! Call it cheesy, corny whatever, I think that is a saying that my family can easily put into play this year. Our boys are 5 and 3 years old (as of this Thursday, happy birthday, Teddy!) and my wife, Kasey, and I are going to make sure Santa knows to only buy them things listed in that saying....

The Salvation Army needs help

We’re officially one week from the start of our annual Two Weeks of Love fundraising campaign to support the Salvation Army of Muscatine. Beginning next Monday, November 27 through Friday, December 1, the massive Hawkeye Hauler truck from Tantara Transportation Corporation will be parked at Hy-Vee off Highway 61. Each year when Freezin’ for Food kicks off, the hauler is empty and quite frankly, it’s scary because we realize how much the Salvation Army counts on this event. At this very moment, the food pantry...

Throughout most of the month of November, when you hear “Tom the Turkey’s” gobble, that’s your cue to pick up the phone and call us! Both our radio stations, KWPC AM 860 FM 95.1 and Vintage Sound 93.1 FM, will be giving you a chance to win a free turkey just in time for Thanksgiving, thanks to our friends at Hy-Vee and Hy-Vee Mainstreet. It’s really easy; listen for the gobble, call in and guess correctly where that rascal Tom the Turkey is...

Vote or die!

Well, that was dramatic. Call me click bait as I lure you in with an AGGRESSIVE headline. I’d like to encourage all of you fine folks taking the time to read this to please remember to VOTE on Tuesday, November 7. If you don’t vote, you really cannot complain about the things going on in the place you live. This election cycle is a BIG one as it not only has a mayoral showdown but several key city council seats, at least here in Muscatine. In Muscatine, we know that the last mayoral election was won by a few...
