Recognizing Viola Werner

What will you be doing this Saturday during the Iowa Hawkeye Football game? Your answer should be attending the Toyz 4 Kids Chili Cook-off at Jody’s in downtown Muscatine. This fantastic annual event allows you to sample a bunch of delicious chili, all while raising money for an excellent cause. Viola Werner and her wonderful group of friends will take all the money raised on Saturday and purchase bicycles for children in Muscatine. The bicycles are then delivered during our Toy Time event, which will take place this December in the Krieger parking lot. The goal during the week...

I’ll cry every time

The afternoon of Thursday, September 28, I walked up to the podium to speak at the funeral of the late, great Nancy Nelson. I had prepared brief remarks on my phone, and for a moment I thought I’d be able to read them without crying. I was wrong. Nancy was a wonderful, compassionate, caring, and strong woman who treated my wife, children, and me like we were part of her family. I should give you some background. My mother in-law, Kim, has been dating Glen for at least five to seven years now. Nancy is Glen’s mom, whom we’ve...

Fun weekend ahead!

The job I have keeps me busy running from event to event across Muscatine and the surrounding communities. This weekend is no exception, and I wanted to make sure you’re in the loop about what’s going on. This Friday, September 29 you should absolutely make plans to attend Hy-Vee Mainstreet Wine & Spirits Oktoberfest event! That’s in downtown Muscatine in the Hy-Vee Mainstreet parking lot starting at 3:30 p.m. Tons of great beer, wine and spirit samplings and tickets are just $10 available at Wine & Spirits or Customer Service. I’ll be there on location with a live broadcast,...

Off air with Tony Tone: Homecoming Week 2017!

Go Muskies! Homecoming week is always an exciting time for students, teachers, families, and supporters. This year, homecoming seems to be happening a bit earlier than usual, and hopefully that means the weather will cooperate for all the events. Personally, I always look forward to being in the homecoming parade, which will take place this Thursday. The drive from Grant Elementary School down Mulberry to the high school is so much fun. I’ve never officially counted, but it would seem the crowd along the parade route would be in the hundreds. This community supports our students, and you’ll be...

Off Air with Tony Tone: From student to teacher

The reality is, I keep getting older, and I’m probably not alone in feeling that (to quote Steve Miller) “time keeps on slippin’, slippin’ into the future.” Just the other day (summer of 2005) I was sitting in the Prudential Plaza in downtown Chicago starting my internship at 105.9 WCKG radio station. The first day, I was the low man on the totem pole. I sat in an office for four hours and typed out what was being said during the show. I remember feeling like I had not accomplished much, but I was interning at a radio station...
