Council reviews parking changes

The Muscatine City Council held their monthly in-depth meeting on December 14. The main topic of discussion was the review of 2nd Street parking limit changes. The new parking limit rules in downtown Muscatine have been in effect for a little over a month. The rules changed from free parking up to 3 hours once per day in each space to free parking up to 2 hours once per day in each block. Santa’s visit to MCSA

Residents of the Muscatine Center for Social Action were treated to a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and a holiday feast on December 13, thanks to Monsanto of Muscatine. This is the fourth year Monsanto of Muscatine has hosted this holiday celebration at MCSA. Viola brings the bikes

Viola Werner has become a well-known name in the Muscatine community during the holiday season. Werner and some of her friends have been donating bikes to children in need during KWPC and Vintage Sound’s Toy Time for over ten years. This year, more than 825 children are signed up to receive assistance from the Salvation Army for Christmas gifts, over 100 more children than in 2016. This year, Werner and her fundraising group, “Toyz 4 Kids,” brought in 71 new bicycles on Thursday, December 7. Monsanto donates ambulance to Fruitland fire department

On November 29, Monsanto Company of Muscatine donated their older ambulance to the Fruitland Fire Department. Monsanto had purchased a newer unit for the plant and wanted to use the older unit to help the community. Monsanto Plant Manager Shawn Schrader said, “We chose Fruitland Fire Department from a conversation we had with a current Monsanto employee who is Trustee in Fruitland and a member of our Plant Emergency team. He asked us to consider donating our older unit to the community. Knowing the need existed locally made it a win for everyone.” Monsanto has their own fleet of emergency vehicles,...

MHS 9th grade academy delivers handmade

The students of the 9th Grade Academy at Muscatine High School recently worked together in class to make tie-blankets for some of the residents at Bickford Senior Living. On Friday, December 8 they hand-delivered the blankets to Bickford. The students had a chance to meet and interact with some of the residents while delivering the blankets. The Academy is part of a teen outreach program in Muscatine. The program requires 20 hours of community service learning hours throughout the semester and the tie-blanket project counts towards their service learning...
