MCSD introduces new curriculum

For the 2017-2018 school year, Muscatine Community School District is piloting some new curriculum for middle school and elementary schools, as well as implementing some new curriculum for the upcoming year. There will be a new ELA (Language arts) curriculum called Collections for the middle schools, which the school board purchased through a company called HMH. Muscatine County Fair crowns a new queen

On Wednesday, July 20, the Muscatine County Fair announced Makayla Kellor as their 2017 Fair Queen. Makayla graduated from Muscatine High School this May. She will be attending Grand Canyon University to study exercise science with an emphasis and minor in Spanish. She spends a lot of time hanging out with friends, doing crafty projects, reading, and spending time with kids through volunteer work. Mulford Character Camp under new direction

Mulford is hosting their annual event, Community Character Camp, from July 24 to 28 with new changes to come. This is a free camp at Mulford Evangelical Church. This camp is for children entering grades one through six and runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Community Character Camp is a place for all children to come together and learn Bible stories, do crafts, eat food, and play games. EICC hosts summer camp for kids

This summer at Muscatine Community College, you may see more 8- to 14-year-olds than you will see college students. MCC is hosting summer camps for 8- through 14-year-olds all summer, along with Scott Community College and Clinton Community College. These camps are sponsored by Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, and camps are held at all three campus locations. Each class has an age group either ranging from 8 to 11 or 12 to 14. YMCA starting their expansion

The Muscatine YMCA has started the construction for their expansion project. This means that certain changes will be made to the area to make it as convenient as possible for Y members during construction. For the next six months, the only entrance and exit are the doors toward the soccer field near Y play and kids club. The service center will be near this entrance for people to check in as normal.
