Team Iowa Takes National Championship

The NUC Rising Stars football championship took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, December 17 – 20, 2015. The 7th grade team from Iowa defeated Team Oklahoma 24-6 and Team Oregon 42-8 to claim the National Championship for the 7th grade division. The team, comprised of student-athletes from across Iowa, had a strong Muscatine influence. In 1997, Mike Bridenstine attended a comedy show at Hancher Auditorium that featured Saturday Night Live stars Daryl Hammond, Jim Brewer, and Norm Macdonald. Bridenstine, who was always a quick- witted jokester in his group of friends, started to think a little bit more about his funny stories. Iowa school report cards highlight procedures in place in MCSD

On December 16, the Iowa Department of Education issued report cards for every school in the Muscatine Community School District. Each school is ranked in several categories before being assigned a grade. The system assigns schools one of six overall ratings: Exceptional, High-Performing, Commendable, Acceptable, Needs Improvement, and Priority. The ratings are based on each school’s performance over a two-year period on up to eight educational measures. Candidates come to Muscatine

As the Iowa caucuses get closer and closer Muscatine continues to be a stop on the campaign trail for presidential hopefuls. On Tuesday, December 28th Republican candidate and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and Democratic candidate, Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont visited Muscatine. Just under 100 people congregated at Elly’s Tea and Coffee in the Peal Plaza on 2nd street to see Christie. Muscatine family uses “secret recipe” to feed families of patients in PICU

Melissa and Chris Anderson have been through a lot. The couple lost their son, Connor, two and a half hours after he was born.
