The Muscatine Police Department has made an arrest in the hit and run accident that occurred on Friday, May 13.
The department issued pictures of a black HHR with a red stipe near the scene of the accident earlier in the week. The driver of the vehicle was then identified. The identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
Angie Stevens, mother of the teenage victim Alex Pobuda, says she received a call late Friday evening. Stevens says that officers told her the arrest was made after a search of the neighborhood.
Stevens will be receiving a copy of the report on Monday.
Alex tells the Voice of Muscatine that he is relieved that an arrest has been made. His mother echoes that sentiment saying, “It’s sad, you start losing joy, becoming so focused on who did this. We are so relieved to know that an arrest has been made.”
Depending on the charges that are filed, and how the county prosecutors proceed, Alex may need to testify. Alex says he would welcome the opportunity to be face to face with the driver.
Though there are more legal steps to come, Stevens says she feels like this scary chapter is over, and their family can finally move on.
The Voice of Muscatine will continue to follow this story and will update as any more details are made available.
